Grinch Inspired Hot Cocoa Topping
Christmas time means re-discovering some of our favorite characters, both literary and from the big screen. See how we are adding a little Grinch-mas to our hot cocoa!
With all of the typical symbols of Christmas, from the tree to the nativity to the twinkling lights, there is one iconic figure who I always think of when I see a red heart. He’s green, he’s grumpy, and the poor guy has a disproportionately tiny heart. I’m talking about THE GRINCH, of course! It won’t take you more than a simple Pinterest search to find all sorts of great Grinch-inspired treats and crafts and drinks for your holiday gatherings. I wanted to share the simplest of ideas that you can use to add a little bit of Grinch to your hot cocoa bar this Christmas!
This morning I treated the kids to some hot cocoa (a rare school morning occurrence for SURE). I topped their hot cocoa with whipped cream and then… thinking about that stinky old Grinch and his too-small heart, I added a bunch of little red candy hearts to the top of each mug! Totally cute!
This is a great example of how sometimes, it only takes the smallest effort to leave an impact. The kids loved their “Grinch” hot chocolate, which was no more than a packet of store brand drink mix, whipped cream, and some candy hearts. But they thought it was great and so we’ll chalk it up to a win!
If you are a teacher, this one make a great tie-in after reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. You could make some slow cooker hot chocolate and top it with “Grinch hearts.”
Enjoy!
