Our Story

Mama Cheaps began back in February 2009, during a season of big life changes. As new parents navigating sleepless nights with our newborn daughter, we also found ourselves in the middle of one of the biggest economic downturns in modern history. Suddenly, frugality became a necessity. I started sharing coupon matchups, frugal living tips, and budget-friendly shopping hauls – and Mama Cheaps was born.

What started as a small side hobby quickly grew into a thriving community of families looking for smart ways to save, create, and enjoy life together.

Our Mission

At Mama Cheaps, our goal is simple:
To inspire and equip families with practical ideas that save time, save money, and add more fun to everyday life.

From printable activities and creative DIYs to easy family recipes, travel tips, and seasonal hacks, everything we share is designed with busy families in mind. We believe that joyful family living doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated.

Meet the Family Behind Mama Cheaps

I’m Devon, founder and primary voice behind Mama Cheaps. I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education (with minors in Spanish and Special Education) and a M.S. in Applied Technology. Before blogging, I spent 7 years teaching elementary school and hold permanent Pennsylvania certification in both Elementary and Special Education. Teaching shaped my passion for making information approachable, helpful, and fun – something I carry into every piece of content here.

I live in the Philadelphia suburbs in Pennsylvania with my husband, Bob, who works in food sales by day and serves as a volunteer firefighter and youth hockey coach by night. We have two amazing kids: Lily, a teenager who loves dance, horseback riding and musical theater, and Landon, who is hockey-obsessed. You’ll often see them pop up in blog posts and projects – they’re my favorite product testers!
