Local readers, get ready to SAVE and get your THRIFTING on, courtesy of a brand new Savers Thrift Store opening on 4/7/16 in Willow Grove, PA. I know that many of our readers are already familiar with the Savers chain of stores – and now Pennsylvania is finally getting their very first store! Located at 300 York Road in Willow Grove, this expansive store is on the brink of opening its doors to the public. The shelves and racks are BURSTING with clothing, toys, housewares and more. I got a behind-the-scenes tour over the weekend and it took some serious self-restraint to NOT shop til I dropped!
It’s funny, but even years later, bargain shopping at a thrift store takes me back to some of my very first blog posts I ever wrote. I was fairly new to the world of consignment sales and thrift shopping. I was on maternity leave with an infant Lily and doing everything I could think of to stretch our dollars as far as they could possibly go. I couldn’t believe the feeling of pure exhilaration that hit me after saving so much money, keeping material out of landfills, upcycling, reusing, etc. I STILL get that rush of adrenaline when I find a particularly great deal.
As I toured the large sales floor of the new Savers, I kept seeing item after item that would have found its way into my cart if I were shopping!

During my visit I also had a chance to see all of the work that goes on behind the scenes to get the merchandise out to the sales floor. The process is an incredibly well-oiled machine! This Savers store receives its donations collected by Big Brothers Big Sisters Clothes for Kids’ Sake and also from community members who drop their donations at the stores. Donating is as easy as pulling up to the designated parking spots during regular store hours. Employees will help you unload your donations and you’ll receive a donation receipt for your income taxes and a coupon towards your next shopping trip!
Upcycling rocks – last year alone Savers stores kept 650 MILLION pounds of goods from the world’s landfills. That’s incredible!
Keep donating in mind as you tackle your various Spring Cleaning projects. I like to keep a box that collects donations in my upstairs hallway. When the box fills up, the contents are donated and we start to fill up a new box.
