We are now into our second week of a new school year and the summer is getting smaller and smaller in the rear-view mirror.  One memory that is sure to last, however, is our wonderful week in the Outer Banks, NC.  We spent a fantastic week of R&R and slowed life’s pace down just a little in the process.  We turned off the alarm clocks (haha who needs one when you have a Landon?) and relaxed and played with the kids.

Of course I was armed with my camera, as I almost always am, and I enjoyed snapping several hundred pictures and videos as our week progressed.  This year, though, something was different.  The big kid had a camera of her own!

We had the opportunity to try out the .  Available in two color schemes (yellow or purple), this tough little camera takes both still shots AND video.  It is recommended for ages 4+ and its recommended MSRP is $59.99 (making it MUCH more affordable than some of the pricier “action cameras” currently on the market!).

What’s in the box: a waterproof case for underwater adventures, mounting accessories for bikes and scooters, and a wrist strap.

Some features of the VTech Kidizoom Action Cam include:

  •  1.4 inch color LCD screen
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Micro USB cable for data transfer and battery charging, and expandable memory up to 32GB with a microSD card. (To store all your adventures, a microSD card is required. Sold separately)
  • Features three built-in games, stop motion and time-lapse options, as well as special effects including customized photo frames and filters

Lily was absolutely ECSTATIC when she learned that she would be able to document our vacation by taking pictures and videos “just like Mom.”

She spent most of the week using it with the wrist strap and used the waterproof case for several pool and ocean adventures!

Lily is the only other member of my family who gets up so willingly during our week at the beach to catch as many sunrises as possible. I love that she loves sharing these special moments with me – it’s like, “our thing.”  We caught 3 or 4 glorious sunrises this year and of course she wanted to take pictures like me.

And so, you want to know how many pictures a 6 year old can take during her week on vacation?

Well, I’m happy to report, the transfer process to get pictures and videos off of the Kidizoom was entirely simple.  My computer read it as a plug and play device from the USB port.  I was able to open the removable drive and copy all of the files onto my hard drive in a matter of minutes.

Here’s a look at the pictures Lily snapped while we were on our trip!

And as for the video she took?  We’d be here for hours if I uploaded the raw footage.  :)  Instead, enjoy this condensed version that I edited together.

  2. My daughter Isabella turns 5 next month so I’d love to give this to her as she would have a blast with it! She loves borrowing my phone to take photos (but that makes mommy nervous!)

  4. I have been telling the Hubby we need to get a GoPro for our little skater girl and preschool bmx-er but this would be so much more affordable and kid friendly. The photos look great from it!
