Keystone Floor Products Carpet Review

I’m so excited to show you the recent face lift our downstairs received thanks to a Keystone Floor Products carpet installation.  This is NOT a sponsored post – we are not receiving a dime for sharing our thoughts with you about this company or their service.  This is the 4th project that we have hired them to do over the last oh, 5 years or so, and they consistently knock it out of the park.  I am writing this review out of my own desire to give them a shout out!  Located in Bensalem, PA, Keystone Floor Products have installed both hardwood floor and carpet for us over the years.

We have not really loved the overall appearance of our downstairs (living room, old-dining-room-turned play area, hallway) since we bought the house from my dad.  You might remember that we live in my childhood home, my kiddos being the 4th generation of my family to live here!  When we bought the house just over 10 years ago, our home renovation budget was close to zero.  We did what we could, as best as we could.  The house has its original hardwood floors that are, unfortunately, completely ruined after decades of pet stains and other spills.  Restoring hardwood floors was not a realistic expense, so we grabbed some cheap throw rugs and called it a day.  A couple of years ago we put a nice rug in the old dining room (now play area) and while the quality was lovely, the color did nothing for the room (surrounded by dark knotty pine wood walls) AND showed every single tiny spec of dirt and cat hair that landed on it.

Bob and I are also realistic – we have 2 kids and no matter how hard we try to keep food and drinks out of the living room, they still magically end up in there.  Whether the kids wander in with their snack or our latest party lands umpteen plates of party food around the house, it happens.  This is the reason that we have been trying to overlook the stained carpets and couches – we didn’t want to upgrade only to have them stained up too!  Last month, we reached our breaking point with the old carpet.  It was just awful and gross and quite frankly, embarrassing!  So many stains, traffic -worn patches etc.  Our kids spend a lot of time on these carpets playing with their toys and even with all of the vacuuming in the world, those rugs were ready to be put out to pasture.

We decided to wait on new furniture, but were excited to call up our friends at Keystone Floor Products and schedule a new carpet installation.  Our final decision was to go with a neutral color rug to brighten up those wooden-walled rooms.  It was a soft rug and we went with a thicker pad to really give the floors a nice bouncy feel.  We also opted to go wall-to-wall with this carpet across the two rooms and hallway.  We hoped that by doing this it would really bring the rooms together instead of having so much awkward space in between.

Okay, I took a BUNCH of pictures.  Check out what we started with.  Here are the rugs that we had before our upgrade.  If you look closely at the first picture (bottom righthand corner) you will see one of the bigger stains (soda?  juice?) on this rug.  No amount of carpet cleaning would get it out and it was SUCH a huge eyesore!

Our installation day arrived and I’m not going to lie – I was borderline giddy for the transformation!  We had to unplug all of our electronics and move anything breakable out of the rooms that were getting new carpet.  Other than that, the guys moved the furniture around as they needed to, we didn’t have to move anything.

The 2 installers showed up and got right to work.  They seriously had the old carpet up and new tack strips down in less than an hour.  Their speed was impressive!

Here’s a look at the wooden floors.  See how stained they are?  Maybe someday we’ll think about restoring them, but for right now, I just want a nice plush cozy carpet for the kids to play on.

Let the installation begin!

While they were in the middle of installing the carpet, I ran out to grab Landon from school.  When I brought him home (after he got over being mad that he couldn’t help) he sat and watch the progress from the mud room.

Our brand new carpet was installed in less than 5 hours from start to finish.  Not only did our installers take care to clean up scraps and vacuum the new carpet, they also hauled away our old carpet and padding!  Bob was thrilled that he didn’t have to try cramming all of that old carpet in our trash pile.

I think the “after” pictures speak for themselves.  What an incredible difference!

As for that old dining room?  We picked up a big mirror at Walmart for the wall on the left.  Underneath that we put a STÄLL cabinet from IKEA. This slim 4-compartment cabinet is actually meant for shoe storage but we are using it for tablets, chargers and hairbrushes! Along the other wall we put (also from IKEA) 2 black 2×2 KALLAX storage units. We joined them in the center with a black shelf and filled the cubbies with black fabric bins (which hide all sorts of toys out of view!).

We had another great experience with Keystone Floor Products! Our installers showed up on time, were so super nice and did an incredible job in just a few hours. The carpet and padding quality is really impressive. I’m so thrilled with how a fairly simple upgrade like new flooring really transformed the entire look of our downstairs. The rooms feel much more warm and and inviting and the wall-to-wall look has really helped one room flow into the next. We are so happy we finally made this change!
