Back to school is always filled with so much anticipation, excitement and of course, nerves. Check out this cute little teacher gift idea – perfect for the first day of school. Get the new school year off to a SWEET start with this Sweet Tarts jar.
Well, somehow yet another summer is starting to dwindle and a new school year is just days away. I am always on the lookout cute, inexpensive ideas for little back to school teacher gifts. Especially at the elementary level, I typically send the kids off with a little something each year on the first day of school. These gifts aren’t meant to be big or grandiose in any way – they are simply a token of appreciation for the year to come!
Simple gifts are perfect
Many, many years they would take mason jars filled with fresh flowers! That gift is probably my very favorite. The jars filled with flowers and water were definitely easier to transport during the preschool years when I drove them to school each morning. In elementary school they start riding the bus, and the flowers are a tad trickier to send.
Today’s addition to our teacher gift idea collection is simple, portable, and does not require carrying an open container of water onto a school bus. Other really simple gifts we have used in recent years include this muffin teacher gift idea and this cookie gift idea.
Sweet Tarts teacher gifts
Landon and I were cruising the dollar store the other day and as we were walking through the candy aisle, my eyes settled on the Sweet Tarts!
I had a feeling they would make a great first day of school gift. So we grabbed a few bags of the Sweet Tarts Chews and a box of old school, original Sweet Tarts and home we went. I just finished designing the gift tag and putting the jar together. You could very easily use a different kind of container or even a clear treat bag. That’s completely up to you!
Supplies for Sweet Tarts gift
To put this gift together the way I have, you will need:
- Sweet Tarts (We used Sweet Tarts Chews… see below for the version using the movie theatre box style candy.)
- Pint sized mason jar
- Twine or ribbon
- Single hole puncher
- Scissors
- Our printable tag (I recommend printing it on cardstock to make it a bit sturdier.)
You can grab our printable tags right here. Simply enter your email address in the box and opt-in to receive our free newsletter. How to assemble
1. Print out our gift tags and have your kiddo(s) sign them. Cut out the tags and punch a single hole in the top of each tag.
2. Fill your jar (or treat bag) with candy!
3. Place the lid on jar and use twine or ribbon to tie the tag onto the lid. That’s it! Ready for gifting! So simple, right?
Here’s how the gift tag looks if you tape it onto a movie theatre style box of candy. This would be a great way to put the gift together, too!
