Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls: St. Patrick’s Day Treat

It won’t be long before those little leprechauns are back for some mischief! This year I have the PERFECT treat to make for St. Patrick’s Day breakfast or snacking. These super easy shamrock cinnamon rolls use store-bought cinnamon roll dough and require minimal prep time. They are the perfect sweet for your little leprechauns!

I love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with cute little green and/or shamrock themed snacks for the kids. When the kids were little, we spent hours upon hours constructing all kinds of leprechaun traps in the hopes of actually catching one of the tricksters! You probably won’t be surprised – we have yet to catch one! The leprechauns have played tricks on the kids year after year, and never seem to leave any real gold for them. (Darn!)

I have a great snack idea for St. Patrick’s Day to share with you today. It is a quick and easy baked treat that comes together in minutes. It is perfect for breakfast or an afterschool snack. Use the classic breakfast favorite (cinnamon rolls!) and transform them into a themed holiday goodie.

  • Tube of cinnamon roll dough
  • Green food coloring

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Prep: Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Crafting Your Shamrocks: Carefully unroll each cinnamon roll and cut it into 2-3″ pieces. These pieces will become the “leaves” of the shamrock. Arrange the roll dough into shamrock shapes (use our picture for guidance). You can make a mix of 3-leaf clovers and 4-leaf clovers or make all of one version – your choice.

  3. Bake Time: Bake the rolls until they turn golden in color, about 10-12 minutes.
  4. Frosting: While the rolls are baking, add green food coloring to the frosting.
  5. The End: Smother the warm cinnamon rolls with green frosting and enjoy immediately!
