Check out this adorable party favor idea and printable tag that will tie in perfectly with your reading (or watching) of The Polar Express!
Ever since the very first time that a teacher read The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg to my class, I have been hooked on this beautiful Christmas story. I love everything about it, but most especially the incredibly powerful message at the end. Christmas is such a magical time and the power of belief is so strong this time of year.
The movie version of The Polar Express is cute too, with upbeat songs and an energetic storyline. However, the book will always be my favorite format.
If you aren’t familiar with the silver bell reference in the story, it is the pivotal theme at the end when only those who truly believe in Santa and the magic of Christmas can hear the bell ring. The story is told in first person by the boy who receives the bell from Santa. He says at the end that, “Though I’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me…as it does for all who truly believe.”
It is such a sweet and wonderful story, and after you read/hear it you will never look at a silver bell the same again!
I took that last bit in the book and make a new printable to add to my Christmas collection of content. This bell favor would be perfect to use as a party favor at Christmas! (Or to hand out after reading the book or watching the movie with your students if you’re a teacher.) You could also use these bells as holiday placecard holders at your table! (Perhaps writing the person’s name for each seat on the back of the tag.)
Polar Express Silver Bell Favor Supplies
To make these bell favors, you will need:
- silver bells (I found them at the Dollar Tree.)
- single hole punch
- our printable tags (I recommend printing these on white cardstock.)

How to Make the Favors
1. Print out our tags. There are 8 tags per page. Cut the tags out and use the hole puncher to put a single hold in each tag.
2. Thread the ribbon through the top of the bell and into the hole you punched in the tag. That’s it!
Classic. Simple. Perfect!
