Personalized Disney Autograph Mattes

Years ago I made an autograph book for Lily to take to Disney World. Trip after trip, we faithfully dug the book out from its dusty spot on the bookshelf and packed it in our bags. And Lily would have a blast getting character after character to sign her book throughout our vacation. We’d tote the book back home and back it would go on its shelf, collecting dust and not getting a glance until our next trip.
As our recent Disney trip drew closer and closer, I just assumed we would take along her autograph book like we always had. Then one day I got an email from one of our readers, Laurie, and I learned about her Etsy shop, Prizekeepers. It turns out that she makes the most adorable personalized Disney photo mattes. Last year we got Disney autographs on a photo matte on our cruise. That matte turned into the most incredible and unique souvenir! So when she offered to send me a matte for our upcoming cruise, I decided to give it a whirl.
I was able to specify what personalization I wanted on my matte, as well as what orientation and size we wanted. I knew that our matte would be pretty, but I was not prepared to be blown away by the utter cuteness overload that I found in the presentation! Cute ribbons and tags adorned our carefully wrapped mattes (yes – she even included one for each kid so we could try them out at the parks!). Extra little touches always impress me – and this was wonderfully done!
And the mattes themselves made me smile and got me excited about our trip all over again (like I needed help! LOL). I ripped open the cruise matte right away and then re-wrapped it and tucked it away in our luggage. Since we were cruising AFTER the parks, I had a bag that was designated for cruise-only belongings. As for the smaller mattes for the kids, they got packed into one of the totes that sat on the back shelf-carrier on our car, eliminating the need to worry about them getting crushed.
Laurie recommends using Ultra-Fine Point Sharpie Markers with these mattes. We used Fine Point Sharpies because they’re what we had on hand and had great luck with them.
It wasn’t as hard as I thought to keep these mattes safe throughout out travels in and out of the parks. We kept them in the bottom of the stroller most of the time. Sometimes I stowed them in my backpack and then other times we had them in a Disney gift shop bag, which we hung from the stroller handle.
Every time I handed Lily her matte to hand to a character to sign, we received compliments from other people in line. They LOVED the idea of using a photo matte. Check out how amazing these mattes turned out – what an cool souvenir!
As we packed up and got ready to leave the parks, we carefully tucked these mattes back into a tote where they would stay until we got home.
Once on the ship, we handed our cruise matte over at the Guest Services desk and it was delivered to our cabin on the last night of the cruise.
We bought a family picture while on the ship, specifically with this matte in mind. We already have this hanging in our hallway upstairs – I just love it!
