This one’s as simple as it is festive – and trust me, the platter will be empty before the fireworks even start!

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • Fresh Mozzarella (sliced + a few small cubes for “stars”)
  • Ripe Tomatoes (sliced)
  • Black Olives (sliced or whole, pitted)
  • Fresh Basil (optional, for garnish/“grass”)
  • Cracked Black Pepper (optional)
  • Balsamic Vinegar (for dipping)

How to Make Your Patriotic Caprese Salad:

  1. Start with the Flagpole:
Slice the French bread and lay it vertically on the left side of your serving platter. This becomes your flagpole!
  2. Build the “Stars” Section:
In the upper left corner of the platter, arrange a square of black olives. Top with a few small cubes of mozzarella to resemble stars.

  3. Stripe It Up:
Alternate rows of sliced tomatoes and mozzarella to create the red and white flag stripes. Tip: Start and end with tomato slices for a bold look.

  4. Add Greenery (Optional):
Want to make the bottom of the flag look like it’s waving proudly in the wind? Lay out some fresh basil leaves underneath as grass!

  5. Balsamic Dip on the Side:
Pour balsamic vinegar into a small bowl for dipping your caprese bites and/or French bread slices.
  6. Sprinkle with Pepper (Optional):
For a touch of seasoning, add a little cracked black pepper across the mozzarella and tomatoes.

  • If serving outdoors, keep your platter cool by placing it over a tray of ice.
  • Add toothpicks for an easy grab-and-go appetizer setup.
