If You Give a Teacher a Cookie Gift Idea

I can still remember back to my college days when I took some of my very first courses as part of my major in Elementary Education. By far, my most favorite classes were the children’s literacy classes when we talked about children’s literature and all of the amazing picture books and stories that lend themselves so perfectly to various aspects of elementary school curriculum. I couldn’t begin to count how many evenings I spent in the curriculum library at school, which consisted of many many picture books and even a chalkboard where we could practice writing, as if we were teaching a class.

So it is no surprise that all of these years later I still look to books when it comes to teaching my kids various things or yes, coming up with a fun theme for a teacher gift idea. Chances are good that if you have a kid, you are probably familiar with the classic book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. This author has actually written several spin-off books at this point (If You Give a Moose a Muffin, If You Give a Pig a Pancakeetc.), but the cookie-loving-mouse is the one that started it all.

It’s a cute story that mimics what it’s like to live with a little kid – they ask for one thing and the second you give it to them they ask for something else. I know many teachers who use this book as part of their lesson plans, so it’s no surprise that it makes for a cute and easy gift as well.

Putting these cookie teacher gifts together…

When I was making of these gift tags, I purposefully left off a specific time of the year so that you could use them anytime. I think they would make a fantastic first day of school or last day of school or teacher appreciation gifts. The premise is simple – the tags are themed after the book and simply say “If you give a teacher a cookie…”  You can bake up cookies at home to give to the teacher or simply stop at your local bakery and pick up whatever looks appealing.

How to Assemble Cookie Teacher Gifts

1. Cut out our free printable gift tags. We recommend printing these tags on white cardstock to make them a little more sturdy. Punch a hole in the top of the tag (we put our hole in the top left corner).  Have your kiddo sign the back if you’d like.

2. Punch a hole on a flap or top of whatever bag/holder you are putting the cookies in. Use a piece of twine or ribbon to attach the tag to the bag.
