How to Make a S’mores Bar for Your Next Party
Over the weekend, we had a great time celebrating our boys. On Saturday Bob turned 40 and on Sunday Landon turned 4. It was a weekend filled with family, friends, tons of fun and lots of great food. With the help of my most amazing tribe of fam and friends, I somehow managed to pull off an epic surprise party for Bob. I relied on party trays of sandwiches and bakery cakes and cupcakes to not only lessen some of my prep work, but also to cut down on the sheer volume of supplies that I had to try to keep hidden before the big day!
One party feature that I was so beyond excited for, however, was a S’MORES BAR! I have always wanted to have a s’mores bar at our parties and for one reason or another, it just never came together. UNTIL THIS PARTY!
Not only are S’mores Bars versatile, fun and delicious, they are also totally cool looking! Let me walk you through all of the items that I used to set up our table.
On a white tablecloth I set up a chalkboard easel sign. I cut the design on white vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo machine and affixed the vinyl to the chalkboard.
I got the glass jars from Target – (1) 256oz Glass Jar and Lid – Threshold for the marshmallows and (3) 128oz Glass Jar and Lid – Threshold for the graham crackers, vanilla pizzelles and fudge striped cookies.
We offered two chocolate options (stacked on white plates from Dollar Tree) – Hershey’s Chocolate Bars and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Inside 2 quart sized mason jars, I stored these colorful telescoping roasting sticks.
For the flames, we used regular old Sterno. I already had the white dish and picked up some decorative stones from Dollar Tree. I burned two cans of Sterno at a time and the stones held the cans in place nicely.
It all came together beautifully and it was definitely the hit of the party!
Here is a list of the supplies that I used in one spot in case you’d like to recreate the exact S’mores Bar that I made:
White Tablecloth
Chalkboard Easel Sign
White Vinyl (Cut on Silhouette Cameo)
256oz Glass Jar and Lid
(3) 128oz Glass Jar and Lid
(2) White Plates
Set of Telescoping Roasting Sticks
Sterno
Decorative Stones
Marshmallows
Vanilla Pizzelles
Fudge Striped Cookies
Graham Crackers
Hershey’s Bars
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
As for that party? It was a totally awesome afternoon spent with our closest family and friends! We were somehow able to keep the party a total surprise from Bob and he was floored that everyone came out to celebrate his big day!!

where did you get the white dish that the sterno is in?
I got that dish from Crate and Barrel a few years ago!
How many bars of chocolate & boxes of graham crackers/ cookies did you buy and for how many people?
I bought a case of Hershey Bars, a case of PB Cup 2-packs (about 36 per case I think).. then like 2 or 3 packs each of the cookies and crackers, mainly just to fill up the big jars (we had plenty of leftovers). We had about 75 people at our party. The s’mores were popular with all, but the kids definitely plowed through them more than the adults.
I think using Halloween themed dishes, containers to hold the ingredients would add to the theme & also bring some color to the table.
I love that idea! :) This s’mores bar would be really fun to decorate for various holidays.
Do you just light the sterno? Is there any specific way to get the fire going? Is there an odor ? Can this be used indoors?
Yes, you just light the sterno. Sterno can be used indoors or outdoors! Personally I notice a slight odor from the sterno.
