Nutella Heart Donuts FEATURE PIC

Last week I posted my air fryer donuts recipe (donuts rolled in cinnamon and sugar) and I was pretty sure that you would love them. But can I just say, the response has been overwhelmingly AWESOME!  I am so glad to hear that you are loving these sweet treats!

And so, in the spirit of the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, I thought it might be fun to make another version of these donuts. This is actually a 2-for-1 recipe because it is not just for donuts. You can use the heart-shaped dough that you cut out of the center for heart donut holes! I coated those little hearts in powered sugar and they were tasty, poppable little treats.

No joke – I had a plate piled with one batch of these donuts and donut holes when the kids arrived home from school. They polished off the plate before I knew what was happening. When Bob got home about an hour later from work, he was ready to try the scrumptious donuts I had texted him a picture of earlier.  Imagine his sadness when he discovered the all that remained of the entire batch were two little donut holes! LOL!

Just like our original air fryer donut recipe, you won’t need much as far as ingredients and supplies go.  In fact, the only supplies that I used were the air fryer and a small heart shaped cookie cutter. I also had a ziploc bag that I filled with powdered sugar to shake the donut holes in to coat them. That’s it!

They really do taste like sweet treats! If you think about it really hard, you can certainly taste the biscuit. But we were pleasantly surprised at how the taste changed into more of a donut taste! Perhaps not quite donut-shop taste, but tasty none-the-less!

Heart Shaped Donuts Topped with Nutella

Just like the original air fryer donut recipe that I posted last week, this baking hack uses flaky biscuit dough. You can use whatever brand of biscuits you prefer. I used the Walmart store brand for this batch of donuts.

The treats shown in my final images show both the donuts with the hearts cut out of the middle AND the heart-shaped dough that came out of the middle. Simply use a heart-shaped cookie cutter (mine was approximately 1.5″ in size) and cut the center out of each piece of biscuit dough.

Olive oil cooking spray seems to work great for greasing the air fryer basket for these donuts. Just give the bottom a spray and arrange the dough in a single layer, so they aren’t touching each other. I cooked the bigger pieces first and then cooked up the hearts (slightly different cooking times – see the recipe card below for more info).

So many topping choices!

I decided to top the donuts with Nutella (hazelnut spread) and sprinkles. The donut holes got a quick spray with that olive oil and then I shook them in a ziploc bag containing powered sugar.
