Halloween Cupcake Hack Using a Chocolate Pen

Last summer at Blogger Bash, we had the chance to check out some of the brand new toys that will be stocking store shelves this holiday season.  SO MANY cool toys are coming out this fall, and the Chocolate Pen is no exception!  I actually won a Chocolate Pen and had a lot of fun using it, so I wanted to write up a review post and show you an awesome cupcake decorating hack that it helped me make.

First off, check out the pen.  The Chocolate Pen (recommended for ages 6+) comes with everything you need to get started.  Here’s what comes in the box:

The Chocolate Pen uses two AA batteries and comes with starter chocolate, candy molds and candy bags.

Getting started is a fairly easy process.  You need a cup of hot water to put the bag of chocolate in for a few minutes until it melts.  Then you load it into the gun and you’re ready to go!

You can use the Chocolate Pen freehand or you can use it with the candy molds that come in the box.

I wanted to try tracing other designs with the Chocolate Pen and since Halloween is just around the corner, I decided to add some spooky details to cupcakes we were taking to a party!  You could certainly bake your own cupcakes, but if you’re pressed for time or don’t have the desire to bake, make it even simpler by picking up cupcakes from your local bakery.

We grabbed orange frosted cupcakes from Walmart and I picked the brown chocolate pouch for my designs.  I found Halloween coloring pages online and printed out the ones I wanted to trace.

I covered the printouts with wax paper and got to tracing!

I let these shapes sit for a few hours to harden.  Then they were ready to stick in the tops of our cupcakes!

I loved the results.  It was relatively easy and so super cute.
