Fun Things to Do with Kids on a Rainy Day in Hershey
This post is sponsored by Hershey Entertainment & Resorts as part of my participation in the Hershey’s Sweetest Moms ambassador program. All opinions are 100% our own.
When you think about visiting Hershey, PA, chances are probably fairly high that you are planning to spend some time in Hersheypark. Hersheypark is so much fun for all ages and you could easily spend a day or more enjoying the rides and other attractions. Of course, the one thing that you just can’t plan for when making travel arrangements is the weather. If you happen to find yourself in Hershey on a rainy day, don’t fret! There are a bunch of wonderful family friendly things to do around town that make great alternatives to a soggy theme park.
1. Chocolate World: Whether you have been to Hershey’s Chocolate World one or fifteen times, it never gets old! Stop in and take the simulated factory tour to learn how some of Hershey’s world famous candies are made. (Hint: EVERYONE gets a sweet treat at the end of this FREE tour.) There is a 4D movie, you can make your own chocolate bar and do a chocolate tasting experience. There is a large retail area featuring all sorts of Hershey branded merch and even a food area where you can purchase your favorite Hershey candies and chocolates. If you’re hungry, check out the food court area (our fave? The milkshakes!).
2. Hershey Gardens: Open year round and featuring seasonal displays, yes, the exterior of Hershey Gardens would be pretty wet on a rainy day. However! An absolute MUST SEE (and it’s INDOORS) is the Butterfly Atrium! Walk through a butterfly wonderland and see 500-600 butterflies as they flutter around in a balmy tropical setting! We saw a lovely variety of beautiful butterflies during our visit, including this colorful monarch!
3. Hershey Trolley Works Tour: Offered rain or shine, if you want to immerse yourself in a whole lot of interesting Hershey history while someone else drives you around town and you’re given CHOCOLATE to eat on your journey, this is the perfect tour for you! The trolley tour can be booked in advance or you can purchase tickets at Hershey’s Chocolate World. All trolley tours depart from Chocolate World and return you to the same location at the end.
There are several different tours offered including the standard “Chocolate and History Tour” and then during certain times of year various holiday and seasonal tours are offered.
4. Hershey Bears Game: Check to see if there is a Bears game in Hershey during your stay! This is a great indoor option for a rainy afternoon or evening. Watch a fast-paced, fun ice hockey game at a pricetag that is way less than an NHL game. The stadium is a great venue to watch a game in and there are plenty of food options as well.
5. The Hershey Story Museum – Take a spin through The Hershey Story which is a great museum that teaches visitors all about Milton S. Hershey and how his beloved chocolate company came to be. Enjoy interactive exhibits, make and decorate chocolate in the Chocolate Lab, even sample chocolate from around the world!
6. Antique Automobile Club of America Museum: We visited the AACA Museum several years ago and thought it was an awesome stop for car enthusiasts! This museum has lots of neat cars on display and offers different traveling exhibits throughout the year.
7. The Hershey Theatre: Check to see if there is a show that interests your fam at The Hershey Theatre! This theatre has an all-star lineup of great performances including Broadway musicals, comedians and live stage shows (like the Peppa Pig Live show coming this fall!).
