Fluffy Slime Leprechaun Boogers for St Patrick’s Day

We have whipped up a most excellent fluffy slime, colored it green and added some extra sparkles just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. In a fun twist, we’re calling this slime Leprechaun Boogers!

When the mega slime craze started a couple of years ago, I really REALLY thought it was just a fad. I figured the kids would grow tired of making ALLTHESLIME and the glue bottles and saline solution bottles would be tossed by the wayside. I was WRONG. Slime is still a super popular activity and there are nearly limitless kinds of slime you can make. Last week we made Oobleck which is a tricky sort of slime that hardens when hit, poked or squeeze… then it turns back to liquid.

I found a good “recipe” for fluffy slime from The Best Ideas for Kids and decided to give it a whirl. It turned out great and was the perfect consistency for our Leprechaun BOOGERS!

I picked up some little plastic containers – aren’t they cute? They look like small paint cans! I got them at AC Moore over the holidays. These would make fun party favors or an easy classroom party activity around St. Patrick’s Day.

Fluffy Slime Ingredients

Containers
Printable Labels
2/3 Cup Elmer’s White School Glue
3 Cups shaving cream (the old school foaming kind!)
Green Food Coloring
1 tsp Baking Soda
2 TBSP Saline Solution (must contain boric acid as an active ingredient)
1/4 Cup Warm Water
Glitter
Plastic Gold Coins (optional)

How to Make Fluffy Slime

1. Add glue to a mixing bowl.

2. Add water and baking soda. Stir until combined.

3. Add shaving cream.

4. Add food coloring and glitter. Stir until combined.

5. Add 1 TBSP of saline solution and mix. You will immediately start to feel the change in consistency. The mixture will start to pull off the sides of the bowl. Add 1/2 TBSP of saline solution and mix some more. Repeat with a final 1/2 TBSP of saline solution. Continue mixing and at this point if you’re still using a spoon, you can dig in with your hands and mix the rest of the way.

Note: This slime is fairly sticky! I have seen some blogs advise using a drop or two of baby oil on your hands to cut down on the stickiness. I have to say, the stickiness did not bother me or my kids, so we just played with the slime and when we were finished, it washed right off with soap and water.

We tossed in some plastic gold coins that I picked up at the dollar store!

Play with slime right away or pack it up for your party. I do recommend making this as close to playtime as possible, as the shaving cream will settle after a few hours and the slime won’t be as fluffy after that. It will still be fun slime, just not as super fluffy as it is when first made.

I stuck a gold coin in each container just for fun!
