Fall Weekend at the Jersey Shore

Even if I had tried, I could not have imagined better and more beautiful weather than what we were treated to last Saturday and Sunday.  We had planned to head to the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ on Sunday for a Blogger Bash- a blogger event + the public closing of the boardwalk for 2010.  We knew that we’d be spending all day in Wildwood, which is a good 2 hour drive from home.

When trying to come up with a way to spend the night at the beach on the cheap Biker Bob thought to go camping.  We do, afterall, have our fabulous-barely-used pop-up camper that has been sitting here just begging us  to take it out.  So camping we went!

We had clear skies and temps in the upper 70s/low 80s all weekend.  This was our very first camping adventure with Lily Bean and we were a little nervous to see how she would do- especially with sleeping in the bed in the camper.

Turns out there was no need to be nervous- she was THRILLED!!!!  She danced around wildly as Biker Bob set up “Lily’s Home” as she kept calling it.

We set her up with her chair and favorite animals.  This is her (literally) yelling, “I LOVE MY HOUSE!!)

We stayed at Lake Laurie Campground in Cape May, NJ.  We were able to get a campsite with water and electric hookups for just $33.99 for the night.  Our actual campsite was rather wooded and really gave us a nice dose of nature time.  After setting up camp we decided to spend some of that beautiful afternoon at… the beach!  No beach tags were needed since it’s off-season, so we drove out to the ocean and enjoyed about an hour playing in the sand.

After a lovely afternoon, we enjoyed a yummy seafood dinner at The Lobster House.  They have a huge outside deck where you can sit and watch the boats sail in and out of the marina as you eat.

We hopped back in the car and drove to Sunset Beach on The Point in Cape May.  Have you ever been there?  It is the neatest beach.  Every night, clouds permitting, there is the most breathtaking show- and it’s FREE.  You can watch as the sun sets over the water.  We arrived as the sun was JUST about at the horizon.  It was thrilling to watch!  Everyone clapped when the sun lowered out of site. You might be wondering what the hunk of metal is in the picture.  It’s a shipwreck!  You can check out its story here.

Perfect ending, perfect evening.

But wait!  Camping!  It’s not camping without… a campfire!  Lily Bean loved it, but I have to say, it was a little nerve wracking trying to keep a 2 year old from tripping around the fire.

Sunday morning!

We started off with some breakfast…  you can see that we had some additional guests at our table.

We packed up our little camper and it was off to the boardwalk!!  There is just something about the boardwalk… the ocean breeze, yummy foods, the salty air, the techno music…  lol just kidding about the last one.  But seriously, I do love a trip to the shore. I hadn’t been there since the summer I was pregnant with Lily Bean so it was a trip that was long overdue.  We were met by my in laws and headed to Morey’s Pier to enjoy one last day of rides and boardwalk fun.

When you visit the Boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ you can check out Morey’s Piers.  Each one has a unique look and feel.  There are rides, games and PLENTY of yummy foods available.  That day all but 1 of their piers were already closed for the season.  The remaining pier, Mariner’s Landing, was where we spent the majority of our day.  Mariner’s Landing was perfect for us because it is the home to many of the “little kid” rides.  From a carousel to pirate ships that “fly” around the pier, there was certainly plenty to do.

Biker Bob and his dad played several games with hopes of winning Lily Bean some prizes.

I would say they were successful.  :)

WHAT A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!  We had smiles on our faces the entire way back to PA.

That’s a wrap for Summer 2010.. it was a great one!

Morey’s Piers provided us with complimentary ride wristbands and some vouchers for eats and games.  All opinions and campfire tales are 100% our own.
