Patriotic Chocolate Covered Rice Krispie Treats!
These adorable treats taste as sweet as they look! Make up some easy red white and blue chocolate covered rice krispie treats for your next patriotic-themed event or party.
You KNOW I am always up for anything red, white and blue and today’s treat is NO exception. I am so excited to add these treats to our 4th of July collection. I love Rice Krispie treats, as I have shared many times. When time is on my side, I love making homemade Rice Krispie Treats to take to parties. When I am short on time OR when I want to dip the treats in chocolate, I opt for the pre-packaged Rice Krispie Treats. They are fairly uniform in shape and size and are a little harder than homemade treats. (This helps them hold up to the melted chocolate a little better.)
These adorable treats are portable, decorative, oh yeah, and they also taste great. Plus, let’s face it – people love food on a stick!
Let’s round up the supplies and get to work.
Patriotic Chocolate Covered Rice Krispie Treat Supplies
(2) 8 ct boxes of Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats
16 Popsicle sticks OR Lollipop sticks
12 oz Wilton Bright White candy melts
Patriotic red, white and blue sprinkles
Wax or parchment paper
Baking sheet
How to Make Patriotic Rice Krispie Treat Pops
1. Line a large baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
2. Open each Rice Krispie Treat and discard the wrappers.
3. Insert one popsicle or lollipop stick into the base of each treat and place on the prepared baking sheet. Once all the treats have a popsicle or lollipop stick, place the baking sheet in the fridge for 20 minutes. This gives the treats a chance to get extra firm, which is helpful before adding melted chocolate to them!
4. While the Rice Krispie Treats are in the refrigerator, start melting the candy melts.
If you are going to make a large quantity of these treats, I highly recommend using a candy melter! This little appliance melts the candy and then keeps it warm, giving you more time to work before it hardens.
5. Once the candy has melted, dip each Rice Krispie Treat into the melted chocolate coating about 3/4 of the way.
6. Use a spoon if needed and then allow the excess melted chocolate to drip back into the bowl (or candy warmer). Place the treat on the baking sheet and add Patriotic red, white and blue sprinkles. Repeat with all treats.
You can pop these treats in the refrigerator to help the chocolate harden. They can then be served immediately or stored in an airtight container in a cool place for up to 3 days.
Of course, these treats aren’t just for the 4th of July. You can customize them to fit just about any theme simply by swapping out the white chocolate for another color. Same thing for the sprinkles! Be creative!
