Easy Instant Pot BBQ Chicken Legs
We love barbecue chicken! I love sweet and tangy barbecue chicken legs the most, while Bob loves a spicy buffalo style drumstick. Chicken legs make a great party appetizer, a delicious game-day tailgate food, or even just a yummy mid-week dinner entree! You can choose the sauce/flavor of your liking and play around with different combinations. The Instant Pot (or any automatic pressure cooker) makes cooking these chicken legs (or drumsticks) SO easy. They come out tasting like your favorite order of BBQ chicken wings.

Easy Instant Pot BBQ Chicken Legs Ingredients
2 to 4 pounds chicken legs
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups bbq sauce (your fave), divided
Water (minimum required for your pressure cooker)
How to Make Instant Pot BBQ Chicken Legs
Don’t be shocked when you realize how simple these chicken legs are to make!
1. Sprinkle the chicken legs with salt and pepper, to taste.
2. Toss chicken legs with 1 cup barbecue sauce (until coated).
3. Pour water into the pressure cooker liner and place the trivet inside. Put the chicken on top of the trivet.
4. Close the pressure cooker and set the value to sealing. Set the pressure cooker to manual and pressure cook on high for 12 to 15 minutes depending on the amount of chicken. When the cycle is complete, allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes prior to setting the valve to quick release.
5. Preheat the oven broiler. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil (for easier clean up) and spray with non-stick cooking spray
6. Remove the chicken legs from the pressure cooker and place on baking sheet. Brush with additional barbecue sauce.
7. Place under broiler and cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Turn the chicken and brush with sauce again. Cook another 3 to 5 minutes or until barbecue sauce caramelizes. Repeat if desired for saucier chicken legs.
Enjoy!

Going to try! If using frozen drumsticks would I increase the time?
I have not made this one with frozen drumsticks yet, but yes – just increase the time… maybe start with 5 minutes and see how they turn out? I do pressure cook frozen boneless chicken breasts a lot and they turn out great!
I want to try this! But can I stack them on top of each other or cook one layer at a time? It doesn’t say!
Hi there! Yes, you can stack them! :) Then place them in a single layer on the baking sheet when it’s time to broil.
Looking forward to making this.
If cooking more than 4 legs, what is the cooking time?
Same cook time! :)
