Moana Heart of Te Fiti Glitter Jar
As you may have heard, Disney’s Moana is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and digital! Our friends at Disney sent us a review copy to check out and between the movie that we absolutely ADORE, the music we can’t seem to stop singing, and the fun bonus material that comes with the movie, this one is a HUGE winner in our book!
I wanted to make a fun craft that shows off our love of Moana. If you have seen the movie, you are familiar with the “Heart of Te Fiti.” This green amulet is stolen from the goddess Te Fiti by the one and only Maui. After Maui steals the amulet, the islands are cursed and we see this curse unfolding on Moana’s own island. The coconuts become diseased and the waters yield no fish. The main purpose of this movie is to show how the ocean chooses Moana to return the Heart of Te Fiti back to Te Fiti (with the help of Maui).
The most recognized symbol on the amulet is the swirl seen on Moana’s boat and if you look at the cover of the movie, the same swirl is the “O” in Moana’s name. I decided to take the swirl and use it as my inspiration for this fun craft.
To make a Heart of Te Fiti Glitter Jar, you will need:
:: A small jar
:: Extra fine green glitter:: Mod Podge
:: A sponge brush
:: A flickering tealight candle
:: The Heart of Te Fiti swirl on some sort of removable adhesive (I used my Silhouette Cameo and traced the image from the internet and then cut it out on vinyl. You could print out an image of the swirl and trace it on something with a sticky back like contact paper if you don’t have a Silhouette.)
How to make a Moana Heart of Te Fiti Glitter Jar (watch the video above to see the entire process from start to finish):
1. Affix the Heart of Te Fiti swirl to your jar.
2. Use the sponge brush to brush a light layer of Mod Podge over the entire jar, minus the bottom. I also left the top mostly free of glitter in case I decided to screw the lid onto the jar. The Mod Podge will dry clear.
3. Sprinkle glitter all over the jar until the entire Mod Podged area is coated.
4. Peel off you Heart of Te Fiti swirl sticker.
5. Allow Mod Podge to dry. Then stick your tealight candle inside and enjoy! One extra step you can take if you’d like, is (after your jar is completely dry and after you shake off any excess glitter) to paint the jar again (over the glitter) with a thin layer of mod podge. It will dry clear and seal the jar from shedding glitter.
Moana is now available for purchase and would make such a fantastic addition your family’s video library. Enjoy a couple of bonus clips below from the movie creation process!

Where did you find your jars? I am having trouble finding ones like this with flat sides.
I found these at IKEA! I believe they came in a multi-pack – maybe 3 or 4 in a pack.
Your’s were probably cheaper, but I live in North Dakota with nothing around me. Hahaha!
I bought mine on Amazon. Nakpunar 12 pcs, 8 oz Round Glass Jars for Jam, Honey, Wedding Favors, Shower Favors, Baby Foods, Canning, spices. I was worried about what they would look like, but they are perfect.
Is there another method to get the pattern on the jar instead of using contact paper or silhouette? Something cheap and effective? Thanks!
You could probably use contact paper (get a roll very cheap – Walmart or dollar store usually has it). Print out the design and trace it on the contact paper. Cut out the design and stick it to your jar the same way I did using the vinyl. That should work! :)
