DIY Mickey Ice Cream Bar Magnets

Ahhhh… The Mickey Bar.

More specifically, the Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar sold in Disney resorts, theme parks and yes, on Disney Cruise ships.  The treats aren’t just tasty and they aren’t just cute.  Some would say that they are, in fact, iconic.  Mickey Bars, as they are affectionately called most often, are a delicious ice cream treat featuring vanilla ice cream on a popsicle stick coated in a decadent, rich chocolate shell covering. Add the fact that they come in the shape of Mickey Mouse and you’ve got a surefire popular treat on your hands.

One serious drawback to these themed Mickey bars? They ain’t cheap. Sold at a whopping $5 price tag (current price as of summer 2018) these treats certainly earn the word “premium” in their name.

I’m not kidding when I say that the Mickey Bar is iconic in nature. You will find Mickey bars splashed all over all sorts of merchandise when you’re in the parks, from antenna toppers to T-shirts. Kids and adults alike love Mickey Bars and they are the perfect sweet treat after traipsing around a hot theme park.

Mickey Bar Room Service

One thing you might already know is that Mickey Bars can also be found on Disney cruise ships. But one thing you might not already know is that Mickey Bars are free on Disney Cruises. Make no mistake – Disney Cruises are not cheap and I’m sure the cost of several Mickey Bars is already nicely padded in your Disney Cruise fare. However even on a cruise, there are up-sells.  Some of the specialty food and drink items cost extra and it’s nice to know that Mickey Bars are not one of them. You can get Mickey Bars from any of the main dining restaurants on any Disney Cruise ship and yes, even though they are not listed on the menu, you can totally order up a round of Mickey Bars from room service.

Mickey Bar Magnets

On our most recent Disney Cruise, a 5-night sailing from New York City to Bermuda, we finally got into decorating our cabin door with magnets.  We have seen some pretty amazing doors on our various Disney Cruises and this trip was no exception.  I think we gave it a solid effort and I loved how our door turned out!

Part of our Fish Extender gifts that we gave out were personalized Mickey Bar magnets.  They turned out so cute, we made up a set for ourselves!  Check out the tutorial below and use our template to make your own!

How to Make Mickey Bar Magnets

Open our Mickey Bar template in the photo editor of your choice.  We sized our Mickey Bars to approximately 4 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall. If you want to add a name, use the text tool.  We use PicMonkey to add text to graphics.

Print your Mickey Bars on white cardstock and cut each bar out.  Laminate the image if desired.

We cut our popsicle sticks down by about 1 inch and used the hot glue gun to glue a strip of magnet on the back of each stick.

Next use hot glue to affix the stick to the back of the Mickey Bar image.

The end result was simply adorable!

As far as our Fish Extender gifts went, we packed up the magnets and put the set for each cabin in a clear treat bag.  On the front of the bag I attached a sticker that I made, making sure they knew that room service would bring Mickey Bars!!

It was pretty exciting walking the ship corridors and finding the magnets that we made on proud display!

Let me know if you end up making some magnets of your own.  I’d love to hear how they turned out or what event/trip you used them for!

  1. Do you have a solid mickey download for the back layer? I am planning to print but can’t figure out how to print without the bite mark for back layer. Thank you!!
