Today we crossed a DIY project off of my list that I have been wanting to make with the kids for years! We made some DIY Cloud Dough! This super easy dough recipe is perfect for hours of creative play! It is also wonderful for kiddos who crave sensory input. This dough is very simple to make and only requires two ingredients – flour and baby oil. Please note that baby oil is harmful if ingested, so you definitely want to make sure your kids understand that this is NOT edible dough before you let them play with it.
To make:
You make diy cloud dough with a ratio of about 1:8 – 1 cup of baby oil for every 8 cups of flour. You can adjust the ingredient amounts based on how much dough you want to make. I actually used a tad more baby oil in my recipe – about 1.25 cups of oil with 8 cups of flour.
To make the dough, you simply mix the two ingredients together. You could use a spoon, fork, whisk or even your hands to combine the ingredients. (I used a spoon.)
I mixed my flour and baby oil in a bowl and then transferred the cloud dough to a Sterilite container that came with an airtight lid. This will allow us to store the dough and we’ll get several play times out of one batch.
As far as the toys in my bin, I bought a pack of plastic utensils and cookie cutters from the dollar store. Beach toys would work great too. If you don’t have a dollar store nearby, check out Dollar Tree or Amazon.
This dough recipe is definitely MESSY PLAY! I highly recommend outdoor use, or spreading out a large blanket or tablecloth under the container if you’re staying inside with it.
