If you’re a hockey fan, you know there’s nothing more iconic than the NHL’s Stanley Cup Trophy. But what if I told you that you could make your very own, larger-than-life version of this famous trophy… using CANDY? That’s right! This fun and seriously impressive project features 72 full-size candy bars, Prime drinks, hockey tape, and even a popcorn topper. Not only is it the ultimate edible trophy for hockey fans, but it was also a huge hit as a raffle prize for my son’s travel hockey team!

Candy Stanley Cup Trophy HERO

Ready to build your own candy-filled Stanley Cup replica? Let’s break down exactly what you’ll need and how to pull it off.

What You’ll Need:

  • 8 bottles of Prime sports drink
  • 12 Snickers bars
  • 10 Twix cookie bars
  • 8 3 Musketeers bars
  • 6 Milky Way bars
  • 12 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
  • 12 Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars
  • 12 Kit Kat bars
  • 2 rolls of ice hockey sports tape
  • Several bags of popcorn

I bought 2 of these boxes of Hershey’s candy bars and 2 of these boxes of Mars candy bars.

Additional Supplies:

  • 36″x3″ Thick cardboard mailing tube – This will serve as the main “stem” of your Stanley Cup.
  • A circle-shaped piece of cardboard (with a hole cut in the middle to fit the mailing tube). You will be covering this piece with aluminum foil.
  • Extra cardboard
  • Aluminum foil
  • Scotch tape – For assembling your candy bars and holding things together.
  • Aluminum Foil Tape – To cover the plastic bowl, giving it a shiny look.
  • Plastic bowl (Dollar Store variety works great!) – This will serve as the top bowl of the trophy.

How to Build the Candy Stanley Cup

1. Create the Base

  • Start by attaching the Prime bottles together in a circle around the bottom of the mailing tube using scotch tape. These will form the sturdy base of the trophy. You might need to put a cardboard “collar” around the tube to help the bottles line up nicely (see pic below).

  • Once the bottles are taped together, place the foil-covered cardboard circle on top, threading the mailing tube through the middle. This gives your trophy structure and a base for the candy bars.

2. Build the Candy Layers

  • Next, start adding your candy bars! Use the tape to stack and secure your layers of Snickers, Twix, 3 Musketeers, Milky Way, Reese’s, Hershey’s, and Kit Kats around the mailing tube. Alternate the types of candy bars to give the “trophy” a colorful look.

  • Keep taping the bars together, making sure everything stays secure as you build up the height of your trophy.

3. Prepare and Add the Bowl

  • Once you’ve got your candy layers built up (and trust me, this thing is going to be tall – about 3 feet!), it’s time to add the bowl. Take the aluminum foil tape and cover the entire bowl.

  • Attach the bowl to the top of the trophy by using the foil tape to secure it in place. We used strips that were stuck to the mailing tube and ran up the outside of the bowl, over into the bowl.

4. Hockey Tape Accents

  • For an extra fun hockey twist, wrap a couple of layers of ice hockey sports tape around the different layers of the trophy. This adds to the hockey theme and keeps everything sturdy. You can opt to wrap the rest of the tape rolls onto the trophy into the layers for an added piece to the prize.
  • You can also add a snack of some type to the bowl. We chose bags of popcorn since they are nice and light.

5. Finishing Touches

  • Double-check that everything is secure. If you need to transport the trophy to a rink or other venue, you’ll want everything to stay in place during travel.

Tips for the Perfect Candy Stanley Cup:

  • Mind the heat! Since this masterpiece is made up of chocolate candy, make sure you keep it out of direct sunlight or anywhere too warm, or you might end up with a melted mess.
  • It’s heavy! With 72 candy bars, sports drinks, and other supplies, this trophy is no lightweight. Make sure you have a solid way to transport it to your event.
  • Give it space! This beauty is around 3 feet tall, so you’ll need some room to display it properly. It’s definitely going to draw attention, so make sure you have the perfect spot for it!

Crowd-Pleasing Trophy for Hockey Fans

I can’t even begin to describe the excitement this Stanley Cup replica brought to the raffle table. Kids (and grown-ups!) were absolutely thrilled when they saw it. With all the candy and cool hockey touches, it became the most sought-after prize of the day. We had tons of raffle entries, and the lucky winner could barely contain their excitement when she took this bad boy home! (Our winner was a 7 year-old-girl. The trophy was almost as tall as she was!)

This candy Stanley Cup trophy is the ultimate prize for any ice hockey event, birthday party, or even a creative gift for the hockey fanatic in your life. Just prepare for plenty of cheers and smiles when people get a glimpse of your sugary masterpiece!
