Years ago, you could stop at Starbucks and order the dreamiest of snacks. They were called Marshmallow Dream Bars. These “dream bars” were basically thick Rice Krispies Treats with soft chunks of marshmallow throughout the bars. We weren’t able to find these bars at Starbucks for a number of years (not sure if they are back yet or not) so we figured out a REALLY good copycat recipe and are sharing it below!
Oh, do I have a treat for you today.
I don’t want to brag, but I’m a little famous for these. Locally famous anyway.
I want to share my ultimate go-to dessert recipe with you. This is our favorite dessert to take to parties or make for holidays and they ALWAYS get rave reviews! We actually call these “Weaver Dream Bars” – a funny play on our last name and the aforementioned Starbucks treats. You do not need a lot of ingredients to make these treats. It is a very budget-friendly recipe that only takes about 10 minutes to make.
See below for the printable recipe card.
You will need:
- 6 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal
- 10 oz (1 package) regular sized marshmallows
- 1 Cup mini marshmallows
- 4 TBSP butter
- non-stick cooking spray
- seasonal sprinkles
How to make:
Spray a 13×9 inch glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
Melt butter over low-medium heat in a large pot. Stir constantly and don’t let the butter burn.
When butter is almost completely melted, add large marshmallows and melt over medium heat. Use a spatula to stir (spray spatula with non-stick cooking spray if it sticks to marshmallows).
Melt marshmallows until almost all lumps are gone (some are okay!). I let mine melt for a few minutes past the stage pictured here:
Remove pot from heat and add cereal.
Now here’s where the bars get their “dreamy” consistency. Add your (UNMELTED) mini marshmallows to the mixture. Mix until the melted marshmallows coat the cereal. The mini marshmallows will only melt a little bit – leaving bit pockets of gooey marshmallow in each bar. Totally dreamy!
Add mixture to the greased baking pan that you had previously set aside.
Use spatula to spread mixture to the pan’s edges. Pat the mixture to make it as level as possible.
Add the sprinkles of your choice IMMEDIATELY.
Let your bars sit at room temperature to set. NEVER EVER refrigerate them – they will turn rock hard and lose any hint of dreaminess!

Love Aldi!
i love their dark chocolate
I finally tried Aldi recently based on your recommendations! My favorite item to stock up on was canned beans…great price for something we use all the time.
I use the same recipe but add 1/4 cup of yellow cake mix. They are so delicious!
Yum!! I have made them that way before – they are super tasty!!
