Best Backyard Games for Summer

Yesterday, I got a great reaction when I posted the giant dice game that was currently on price drop.  This game (called “Rollzee”) is a  large version of the game Yahtzee and is such a fun spin on the traditional game.  Instead of standard dice, of course, Rollzee uses REALLY BIG wooden dice (3.5″ sides) and turns that tabletop game into a backyard game perfect for a summer BBQ/picnic/party crowd!  That post got me thinking about how many fun backyard games there are these days.  In fact, last fall at Bob’s 40th birthday party, I rented a whole bunch of these games and the party guests LOVED them.  We had everything from horse shoes to cornhole and they kept the crowd engaged and entertained!

Best Backyard Games for a Party

I asked my friends to help me brainstorm their absolute FAVORITE backyard games to play.  Here’s what we came up with!

Rollzee – giant dice game that mimics the traditional game Yahtzee

Giant Tumbling Timbers – giant wood stacking game that mimics the traditional game Jenga

Spikeball – “a fun, active, and competitive (if you want it to be) 2 on 2 outdoor indoor sports game played on college campus, tailgate, the lawn, yard, beach or gym with rules kind of like volleyball”

Giant 4 Connect in a Row – Just like the tabletop game “Connect 4” that we grew up playing!

Ladder Toss Double Ladder Ball Game – Fun toss game, great for tailgating!

Croquet Set –  a backyard classic!

Wooden CornHole Set – Cornhole is a great game to play with a crowd or even by yourself. Choose between a wooden set which is heavier but typically withstands the test of time (and many beanbag throws) a little better, or a canvas topped set.

Kan Jam Ultimate Disc Game – a fast-paced 2-on-2 flying disc game

BucketBall – Fun ball toss game that’s perfect for the beach or backyard.

Horseshoes – Party guests always find their way to the horse shoe pit!

I hope this gives you some great ideas for getting started with some of the best backyard games out there!  Drop me a comment with YOUR family’s favorite backyard games!
