Easiest Way to Make Hard Boiled Eggs

Hang on to your hats, because this one is going to change your world. I don’t know about you or your family, but we love hard boiled eggs. We love eating them whole and we love turning them into deviled eggs and egg salad. But let me tell you something: before we bought our Instant Pot, we hardly ever made hard boiled eggs.  That’s because it was always a big hassle.  First of all, I never remembered how to make hard boiled eggs off the top of my head.  No idea why.  It just never stuck.  So I always had to double check directions and that was annoying.  Then, no matter what I tried when they were finished cooking, they were always a pain to peel.  I routinely destroyed as many eggs as I peeled nicely because the shells would stick to the eggs and it would be near impossible to separate the two!  We had our Instant Pot (we have this Instant Pot) for more than a year before we tried using it to make hard boiled eggs.  I am tell you right now: the easiest way to make hard boiled eggs is in the Instant Pot.

How to Make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

Our Instant Pot has an egg function on it.  I believe that most of the recent Instant Pot models have the egg cooker function, but double check before you buy.

1.  Place a steamer insert into your Instant Pot.  (We use a regular old steamer insert we picked up at IKEA.)  Add 1 Cup of water to the pot.  Place eggs on steamer insert.  We typically hard boil 2 dozen eggs at once.

2. Close Instant Pot with the lid and set the valve to “seal.” Press the “Egg” function button on your Instant Pot.  Make sure it’s set for 5 minutes of cook time.

3. As SOON as the 5 minute timer goes off, do a quick pressure release.  Immediately plunge the cooked eggs into an ice bath.  Leave them in the ice bath until they are cool.

We pack our cooked eggs back up in their carton and store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

They not only taste great (the yolk is consistently moist, not dried out) but peeling them is a DREAM!  They peel so easily!  For the first time EVER, I am looking forward to dyeing Easter eggs because I know that the eggs won’t be a hassle to cook and peel!!
