Fun Things to Do in Hershey During Winter
This post is sponsored by Hershey Entertainment & Resorts as part of my participation in the Hershey’s Sweetest Moms ambassador program. All opinions are 100% our own.
You might think that Hershey, PA is only a summer destination. In fact, I’ll bet that when you picture Hershey, PA, one of the first activities that pops into your mind is Hersheypark. Hersheypark, of course, being a seasonal amusement park with plentiful summer hours and limited hours in spring and fall. But when the park closes its gates for the winter and the temperature dips to freezing, you will still be able to find many fun things to do in Hershey during winter months! The bonus is that many times the crowds at various attractions is lower in the winter than in the busy summer months. Shorter wait times and fewer people always make me smile a bit more!
So the fam and I put together this list of our very favorite things to do in Hershey, PA – that are open and operating during the winter months! Make sure you check individual attraction websites to see what their various hours are, as some do run on different winter hours than they do in the summer. (And p.s. If you’re planning to spend the night in Hershey – our kids LOVE Hershey’s Water Works at Hershey Lodge. This indoor water park is open year round and is available exclusively to Hershey Lodge guests!)
p.p.s. Don’t forget to have some HOT CHOCOLATE. My favorite hot chocolate in the world is in Hershey – at the hotels, restaurants, Chocolate World… anywhere that serves it with Hershey’s chocolate (which is most places!)! LOL
ZooAmerica: Open year round, check out this 11 acre, walk-thru park zoo that sits right next to Hersheypark. We love visiting all of the animals at ZooAmerica!
Hershey Bears Ice Hockey: Check to see if there is a Bears game in Hershey during your stay! This is a fun indoor option for a rainy afternoon or evening. Watch a fast-paced, fun ice hockey game at a pricetag that is way less than an NHL game. The stadium is an awesome venue to watch a game in and there are plenty of food options as well. (The Bears play at the Giant Center which also happens to hold MANY big name concerts throughout the year. Check the Giant Center concert schedule to see if any of your favorite artists will be playing!)
The Hershey Story Museum: Take a spin through The Hershey Story which is a great museum that teaches visitors all about Milton S. Hershey and how his beloved chocolate company came to be. Enjoy interactive exhibits, make and decorate chocolate in the Chocolate Lab, even sample chocolate from around the world!
MELTSpa by Hershey: Brand new this summer, check out a luxurious new day spa located in downtown Hershey. Services range from massages to facials, many using exclusive Hershey’s dark chocolate treatments!
Chocolate World: We ALWAYS stop at Chocolate World when we are in Hershey. It is open year round and parking (up to 3 hours) is free. Stop in and take the simulated factory tour to learn how some of Hershey’s world famous candies are made. (Hint: EVERYONE gets a sweet treat at the end of this FREE tour.) There is a 4D movie, you can make your own chocolate bar and do a chocolate tasting experience. There is a large retail area featuring all sorts of Hershey branded merch and even a food area where you can purchase your favorite Hershey candies and chocolates. You can easily spend 2-3 hours checking out everything in Chocolate World.
Hershey Trolley Works Tour: Offered year round, rain or shine, if you want to immerse yourself in a whole lot of interesting Hershey history while someone else drives you around town and you’re given CHOCOLATE to eat on your journey, this is the perfect tour for you! The trolley tour can be booked in advance or you can purchase tickets at Hershey’s Chocolate World. All trolley tours depart from Chocolate World and return you to the same location at the end. There are several different tours offered including the standard “Chocolate and History Tour” and then during certain times of year various holiday and seasonal tours are offered.
We have taken the “Chocolate and History Tour” twice and both times the tour guide and information given were all top notch!
Hershey Gardens: Open year round and featuring seasonal displays, a visit to Hershey Gardens is a great way to spend some of your time in Hershey. An absolute MUST SEE (and it’s INDOORS) is the Butterfly Atrium! Walk through a butterfly wonderland and see 500-600 butterflies as they flutter around in a balmy tropical setting! We saw a lovely variety of beautiful butterflies during our visit!
Antique Automobile Club of America Museum: We visited the AACA Museum several years ago and thought it was an awesome stop for car enthusiasts! This museum has lots of neat cars on display and offers different traveling exhibits throughout the year.
The Hershey Theatre: Check to see if there is a show that interests your fam at The Hershey Theatre! This theatre has an all-star lineup of great performances every year including Broadway musicals, comedians and live stage shows!
