Disney Themed Party

“Congratulations! You’ve been selected to be a host of a #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate!”  Those were the words that flew into my inbox a couple of months ago.  Could my job get any better?  (NO!)  I received word that I was selected as a #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate host and the wheels in my head started to turn.  I shared the news with my kids and they were equally as excited as I was.  We were tasked with creating a fun Disney-themed party for our friends.  You probably already know how much we love Disney, so this was extra exciting! We kicked around several different themes and ultimately kept coming back to Magic Kingdom favorite foods and Moana-inspired snacks and activities.  We watch Moana on repeat around here and listen to the soundtrack often.

Disney sent us some great supplies to use for our party, including an HP Card and Invitation Kit, packs of HP Social Media Snapshots, a Pillow Pet, Softsoap, and Pop Secret Popcorn.  Our party package was all nice and contained in super cool Star Wars Storm Trooper luggage made by American Tourister.

Decor

Most of our decor came from our local Dollar Tree.  Not only do they typically carry Disney themed party decor, with summer coming we lucked out big-time on all sorts of tropical/tiki decorations for our Moana theme.

I made printable cards for our food snacks and printed them on cardstock on my HP Envy printer.

The kids already had a Moana playset, so we used that as our centerpiece along with an inflatable palm tree and some leis.

I also whipped up some shirts for the kids using my Silhouette Cameo!

Activities

Make and Take Art Table (Sponsored by Crayola)

We took these new Crayola Moana Color Wonder Sets and Crayola Moana Giant Coloring Pages (along with some Crayola Crayons!) and set up a pretty incredible make and take art table!  We had many pages spread out all over the table and the kids could walk up and create as they desired.

Party Entertainment (Sponsored by GigSalad.com)

We thought it would be fun to take our party entertainment up a notch and hired a professional character to interact with our guests.  We used event planning service GigSalad.com to hire a local actor to visit our party.  It was easy to find a number of party entertainment companies in our area on GigSalad.  We booked an “island princess” to come to our party and the kids were absolutely THRILLED!

The booking experience was very easy and user-friendly.  If you are looking to hire any kind of party entertainment, from magicians to balloon artists to face painters to character appearances, try searching local companies on GigSalad.com!

Finding Hidden Mickeys!

One of our favorite things to do on any trip to Disney World or on a Disney Cruise is to keep an eye out for Hidden Mickeys.  They are everywhere!  Lily helped me to hide several Mickeys both inside and outside before our party started.  Upon arrival, each guest received a Hidden Mickey card and tried to find all of them during the party.

Music

We streamed lots of Disney music on my Amazon Tap.  We shuffled soundtracks from Moana, Frozen and more!

Outside Play!

About a week before our party, the forecast for party day was pretty dismal.  It looked to be an all-day chilly rainy day.  We were so pleasantly surprised when party day arrived and we had a bright, sunny picture perfect party day!  This wonderful weather meant lots of time outside blowing bubbles, running here and there, and playing on the swing set.

Favors

Guests at our parties rarely leave empty-handed.   Whether they take home fun food favors or something I crafted up for them, I love party favors!  Our Disney Preschool Playdate was no exception.  The kids toted home various artwork that they made at our Art Station.

In addition, every mom left our party with a pack of HP Social Media Snapshots.  This sticky-backed printer paper is so much fun – my entire office is decorated with it!  The paper works with most inkjet printers and when you download the free HP Social Media Snapshots App, you can print your pictures right from various social media platforms in seconds!

The kids left our playdate with some delicious Disney-inspired treats from Sprinkled Co.  They each received a pack of chocolate covered pretzels and a pack of white chocolate drizzled caramel popcorn.  Sprinkled Co is a local-to-us business run by 4 lovely ladies.  Their product and packaging are beautiful (not to mention slobber-worthy-delicious!) and they can customize your order with colors and flavors of your choosing.  Even if you are not local (Philly suburbs), I’m happy to tell you – they SHIP.  So look them up for your next party, shower, wedding, etc or the next time you want to give a delicious gift to someone special.

Aren’t my Mickey Mouse buckets cute?  Believe it or not, they originally held gift basket goodies that we received over the holidays.  We saved the metal tubs and I turned them into “Mickey” party tubs by cutting ovals in white vinyl with my Silhouette.  So simple but they worked perfectly!

My Takeaways

I feel like hosting themed parties is in my blood.  I absolutely love it and to have the opportunity to create a Disney-themed party from scratch was so much fun!  The Disney Collection entails so many beloved movies, shows and characters, it is easy to pick a theme that is appropriate and exciting for just about any age level.  We had more than a dozen kiddos at our playdate and their ages ranged from the youngest of Disney Junior watchers to early elementary school as we invited friends for both of my kids to party with.  They all came wearing their favorite Disney character shirts or dress-up outfits (I didn’t even request this!  They just arrived ready to show off their Disney spirit!).

Disney decor and Disney inspired recipes are easy enough to find at the stores or can be homemade.  Whatever level of commitment you have for your Disney playdate or party, there are supplies at-the-ready for that!

Our Disney playdate not only gave the kids a fun excuse to play and socialize, it also gave the parents a fun outlet to discuss past and future Disney vacations.  We has seasoned Disney goers at our party who were ready to chat up the dining plan and the Advanced Dining Reservations that they’ll be making this week for their trip this fall.  We had parents who have never been to Disney World before but are kicking around a future trip with their kids.  They were the two extremes – everyone else had been to Disney before at least once and were happy to share trip memories and possible future trip plans.  I always tease Bob and tell him to “talk Disney to me” but it’s true, I love Disney talk.  I love recapping our trips, looking at photos and videos from past trips, and daydreaming about the next Disney adventure.

Are you planning a Disney trip with preschoolers?  Make sure you check out this Disney Planning Page made specifically with their youngest visitors in mind.
