A couple of weeks ago I mentioned to my sister that I needed to pick up a birthday present for our great aunt. I wanted to get her a gift certificate to an upscale local restaurant that she enjoys. This was an especially special year for her – she turned 80 years old and it was the first birthday she celebrated without her husband, our great uncle, who passed away in October.
So when Caitlin told me to check out Costco for the gift certificate, I was surprised. I had heard that they sold discount movie tickets there, but that was it.
Not only did I find an amazing discount on the William Penn Inn ($79.99 for $100 in gift cards) – the exact restaurant I had hoped to get Aunt Sylvia’s gift from, but they had a whole bunch of other discount deals as well.
As I walked around the other side, I found another great deal: discount Universal Orlando tickets. Costco offers 3-day 2-park admission tickets for Universal Orlando for $139.99. If you were to purchase the same exact tickets from Universal’s website, you would pay $144.99 plus tax (and that includes a $10 discount for purchasing online – you would pay $154.99 plus tax at the gate).
Super huge savings? No.
But after taxes you are talking about a savings of around $10-$15 per person. That can add up – especially for larger families. I also like to purchase tickets ahead of time whenever possible to avoid having to stand in line when the fam is rearing to start exploring.
Have you found any stores that offer similar discounts on family attractions?
