Disney Cruise Shadowbox Craft Idea for Displaying Old Key to the World Cards

Disney Cruise Shadowbox Craft

When you take a Disney Cruise, you receive your Key to the World Card upon check-in.  These cards are similar to your average hotel room key, in that they unlock your cabin door.  These keys, however, do a lot more. Your Key to the World Card not only unlocks your door, but on the Dream and Fantasy, your key turns on the lights and other electronics in your cabin.  The front of your card holds a lot of information for your trip, including your dining rotation, table number, muster station for lifeboats, account number, Castaway Club level, etc.  When you’re on the ship, your card is used to charge any onboard purchases that you might make.  These cards are also the way that the ship’s crew keeps track of passengers during days at ports of call to make sure that everyone makes it back to the ship before it departs.

When you check in for your Disney Cruise, everyone in your party receives their own card, as well as a lanyard to carry it in.  One note – I definitely recommend hanging on to your younger kids’ cards.  Once they are on the ship, they don’t need them for much.  We don’t give our kids charging capabilities and they don’t need their cards to check into the kids’ activities (parents need their cards for that).  Our kids wore their lanyards as we got on and off the ship at ports of call and then we held them during most of the on-ship time, including when they went to the kids’ club.

Disney Castaway Cay

I wanted a fun way to display our old Keys to the World cards once we got home from our trip.  We have sailed on 3 Disney Cruises so far and have amassed a small collection of cards by this point.  Shadowboxes are great for displaying various small objects from trips or other special events.  I like that there is room on the back for a picture.

You will need:

  • Shadowbox (I used an 8×8 inch box)
  • Picture from vacation, sized to fit the back of the shadowbox (I printed mine right from home on my HP Envy!)
  • Scotch Tape (to affix picture to the back)
  • Disney Cruise Key to the World Cards

To make:

1. Tape picture to the back of shadowbox.

2. Place Key to the World Cards in the shadowbox.

3. Place backing on the shadowbox.

FUN!
