Monster Truck Rice Sensory Bin
You might remember that last summer I dyed rice for the first time. You can check out a full tutorial on how easy that process is here. I was dyeing rice (red and blue) to make red, white and blue layered centerpieces for our annual 4th of July BBQ. The day after our party, Bob and I were looking at the various rice centerpieces and just as he was about to start dumping the rice in the trash, I had the idea to transfer them to a bin for the kids to drive their cars in.
Rice is a great option for sensory play and this was no exception! We started out with a small bin and quickly realized that we had enough rice to fill up our empty sand/water table. Landon has a collection of monster trucks and we knew he would have a blast driving them up and down the rice hills in his very own Monster Jam!
You can pick up trucks like these at stores like Amazon, OR!, you can do what we did… and keep your eyes open at thrift and consignment sales. We had picked up a small bag of these trucks at a consignment sale last year for just a few dollars. These trucks have seen a lot of play!
Make sure you cover your play table if it’s outside. Once the rice gets damp or wet, it needs to be discarded. Fortunately, rice is pretty cheap! We grabbed ours at the dollar store.
