Disney World One Day Memory Maker – Is It Worth It? What Do You Get?

Disney World Memory Maker Package Deal

So you’re heading to Disney World!! You might remember this piece that I wrote a couple years ago about how important it is to be present in your family vacation. This absolutely includes jumping right in for pictures with the kids! Of course, the hardest thing about taking pictures on vacation can be trying to get everyone in a single picture – afterall, someone has to take the picture, right?  With Disney’s Memory Maker you can get everyone in front of the camera and get a digital download of every single image.  Memory Maker pictures are all linked to your My Disney Experience account and pictures include candids from rides that offer them and any images snapped by park photographers.  (Make sure you swipe your MagicBand or park ticket after taking these pics to ensure they end up in your account!)

Memory Maker images are high resolution downloads and include copyright release.

For years, Disney World has offered photography services that make it easier to get everyone in the picture, but of course they come with a price.  Did you know that Park Photographers are more than happy to take a picture with YOUR camera after they snap one with theirs?  That’s always a nice option, and even nicer, FREE.  Park photographers can be found ALL OVER the Parks and you can locate them on the My Disney Experience app.

Photo services at Disney used to be via Photo Pass cards, now they have moved to magic bands (if you don’t have a magic band you can use your park ticket).  Each park has a photo center where you can view the pictures on your account and purchase paper prints.  In recent years the push has been for digital images, which personally I happen to love.  I like having the digital copy that I can use online OR to order prints, instead of having to scan a paper print.

Disney Visa – One credit card perk that we NEVER (EVER!) skip on our vacations to WDW is the FREE character meet and greet that comes with our Chase Disney Visa Credit Card.  I have written a detailed post about that freebie HERE.  The one thing that we experienced on our last trip is that this perk now includes all DIGITAL images!!  So instead of years’ past where they would take a bunch of pictures during the meet and greet and you got to choose ONE image for a free 5×7 paper print, you now get a FREE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD of ALL of the pictures taken during this meet and greet!!  You simply pull up your Photo Pass on the My Disney Experience app and can download those images within minutes of the meet and greet.  Here are all of the pictures we got on our last trip:

I was so thrilled to get downloads of all of these pictures!

So what are the Memory Maker options for a Disney World vacation?  The traditional Memory Maker (price recently dropped – $149 if pre-purchased, $169 to use immediately and not wait the 3 days that the pre-purchase option requires) includes ALL of your pictures from a multi-day Disney Parks trip.  All images are available for digital download

Last year Disney added a 1-Day Memory Maker option for $59.  Unlike the traditional multi-day Memory Maker which can be purchased online, the 1-Day option is a little harder to find.  It appears as an option under Photo Pass in the My Disney Experience app when you are in the Parks.  The 1-Day Memory Maker includes a digital download of every single image snapped during one single day in the Parks.

What kind of pictures are included in the Memory Maker packages?

Disney PhotoPass Photographers Photos – located throughout the Parks

Attraction Photos and Videos – available on certain rides only (including Splash Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin)

Magic Shots – Find Tinker Bell in the palm of your hand and other fun surprises!

Dining Photos – If you dine at a restaurant that takes pictures at the beginning of the meal, you’ll find these images in your Memory Maker account.  (Examples include Cinderella’s Royal Table, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show)

Who would benefit from the 1-Day Memory Maker?  If you are visiting the Parks for just one single day (as we did on our cruise last fall) and you find yourself posing for more than a couple pictures, this could be a great souvenir purchase.

How many pictures did YOU get for $59?  $59 got us digital downloads of 26 pictures and about half of those pictures included all 4 of our family members.

How much do digital prints cost at Disney without a Memory Maker package?  If you want to purchase digital prints from your Parks visit without a Memory Maker package, they are $14.95 per image.  At this price our 26 photos would have cost us a staggering $389!!  So yes, substantial savings versus buying each image individually.  Now sure, there were a few pictures that we might not have purchased… but there are at least 10 pictures that I absolutely adore.

Would you recommend the 1-Day Memory Maker?  YES, personally, I would recommend it.  We only had one day in the Parks, which we split between Magic Kingdom and Epcot.  We found several Park Photographers during the day and also ate at one restaurant that included photography (Cinderella’s Castle).  I felt that $59 was definitely worth it to have the 4 of us in so many pictures together!
