Jacky Ha-Ha Mama Cheaps

I have to admit something: I still do a double-take when I catch Lily nose-deep in a chapter book. I mean, when did my little preschooler turn into this big-girl-bookworm who rips through book after book every week? She simply can’t get enough of books, and I know exactly how she feels!

Sometimes we find books that both of us enjoy reading, and recently Jacky Ha-Ha by James Patterson was one of them!

Lily loved the silliness of the character Jacky Ha-Ha. She loved her jokes and the funny things she said. She loved her adventures with her sisters. Also fun was that part of this book takes place at the Jersey Shore – a place where we have traveled many times as a family.

I loved the many (many!) references to the 1990s in this book. The 90s saw upper elementary school, junior high and high school for me… even the first half of college. That decade encompasses the majority of my school career and carried me from my 10th year through my 19th. So many memories, so many life experiences. This book told the story of Jacky Ha-Ha wading her 12-year-old-self through the 90s. I loved all of the references and found my self stopping often as we read to explain not only the event or person that Jacky was describing, but personalizing it by adding my own experience.

Jacky Ha-Ha by James Patterson is available at booksellers nationwide!

Here are Lily and I chatting a little bit about Jacky Ha-Ha!
