Forecast for today in the greater Philadelphia area: rain showers.
Blech.
It’s always a great idea to have some simple recipes on hand for kid activities- these will definitely break up the rainy days when everyone has cabin fever! Thanks to Karen for passing these along.
Playdough
2 c. flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water (if you want to color it, add a few drops to the water BEFORE mixing)
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tablespoons cooking oil
Mix dry ingredients in saucepan add liquid. Cook over medium heat until the mixture pulls from the side and forms dough. Knead for several minutes. Keep in air tight container in fridge. This will make a lot! Cut recipe in 1/2 or 1/4 to make less.
Bubble Mix
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup dishwashing liquid
1 tsp salt
Combine well, but do this gently. To make even better bubbles, add one teaspoon of glycerin.
Finger Paints
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
5-8 drops food coloring
Combine all in saucepan. Simmer over medium heat until the mixture thickens. Cool and stir before using.
Peanut Butter PlayDough *Obviously this one is only safe for those with NO peanut allergies!
1 cup smooth peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
2 cups powdered sugar
In a bowl mix all ingredients together with your hands. Dough should feel soft and pliable. Shape into the forms of your choice. You can be creative and use cookie cutters.
