Other Places I Hang Out:

Saturday was most definitely a day to remember.  When I caught wind of this event, the teacher in me all but SCREAMED with excitement!  Laura Numeroff, renowned children’s book author, was coming to King of Prussia, PA (nearby town) and would be reading her books during a storytime hour.  Laura wrote the infamous tales: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, If you Give a Moose a Muffin, etc.  I used her books for years in my classroom- they lent themselves to so many lessons, I cannot say enough good things about them.

Laura and Sleepy’s have partnered to promote “Sleepy’s Bedtime Stories.”  They hope to inspire parents everywhere to make a pledge to read to their children for 20 minutes a day- the goal is to inspire a lifetime love of reading in children.

We read to Lily Bean every. single. day.  In fact, there are many days where I’m sure we read WAY more than 20 minutes a day.  We take trips to the library and I love the quality time that reading together brings.

Anyway, back to the event.  This event was open to the public and took place in a Sleepy’s store.  Major props go to Sleepy’s- they were FANTASTIC hosts! They had free Goldfish, Animal Crackers, water bottles, and juice boxes for the kids to enjoy.  Kids were invited to listen to storytime while snacking and lounging on the mattresses in the store.  The Serta Sheep was also on hand for pictures!

Laura read two of her books to the crowd: If You Give a Mouse of Cookie and When Sheep Sleep.  What fun!

After she read her books, we waited for our turn to get our book signed (each family received a FREE copy of her new book, The Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza.  When it was our turn, we chatted for a minute or so.  Lily Bean impressed her with many animal sounds! :)

We had a fantastic time- thanks to Laura for her time and to Sleepy’s for hosting such a wonderful event!

Laura’s “peeps” are providing 1 SIGNED copy of Laura’s new book, The Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza to one very lucky Mama Cheaps reader!
