Yeah! I am so excited about this one! I have mentioned here a few times (and a ton of times on my Facebook page) that I have REALLY been enjoying the new “Food Revolution” that has been sweeping the country (world?) compliments of Jamie Oliver. Jamie Oliver is a world renowned chef (you may know him as “The Naked Chef“). His television show “Food Revolution” aired on ABC this Spring and chronicled a small town in America and its fight against obesity. Jamie jumped right into the trans fat and caloric madness and worked to provide healthier school lunches for the children (WHILE proving that you CAN eat healthy and STAY on budget). I really enjoyed how he educated the town as well. He offered cooking classes and demonstrations to teach everyone how to incorporate more whole foods into their diets.
Jamie’s Revolution is not a fad diet or some sort of get-thin-quick scheme. It’s not a diet at all. It is very simply about adopting a healthier, smarter way of eating and preparing food… not eating processed, chemical filled, preservative laden meals from a box or take out window… and instead going back to the basics with whole, sometimes organic, fresh foods. He has motivated people to get back into the kitchen and cook up fresh meals for their families.
I purchased a copy of Jamie’s Food Revolution last week and have explored its recipes. The other night I made the most delicious asparagus we have ever had- thanks to Jamie’s recipe.
Because Disney Family recognizes the importance of eating and living healthy, they wanted to provide tips and advice on slashing sugar, cooking light, healthy recipes and more. That’s why Family.com has partnered with Jamie Oliver – America’s new healthy food champion – and has recently added brand new site content focused on living better and living well. Jamie Oliver’s show, ‘Food Revolution,’ addresses how families can rediscover ways to cook simple, delicious and affordable meals, and Family.com now features recipes from Jamie as well as his personal tips for healthy living. In addition, you can also stream episodes of Food Revolution from the site. You can check out all of the goodies here.
To spread the word about Family.com’s partnership with Jamie Oliver, and the corresponding site content, Family.com is offering a gift pack to one lucky Mama Cheaps reader which includes Jamie Oliver’s book, Jamie’s Food Revolution, Family.com branded over mitts and apron, a cutting board and bowl set (approximately an $85 value.)

Most of us have given up soda and we are all eating more fresh fruit now.
Thanks for the great contest!

I joined Weight Watchers this week after numerous failed attempts to lose weight on my own.
I keep pre cut or easy to grab healthy snacks front & center in the fridge so my kids are more likely to grab them. My son loves to be able to go to the fridge and help himself to some yummy fruit all ready to go for him and I like that he’s helping himself to something healthy
All of us have increased the amount of water we drink every day. My three kids all take reusable water bottles to school instead of pre-packaged juice boxes.
We also eat fish/seafood at least three times a week…my kids have discovered that they love tilapia, salmon, and flounder!
I have subscripted to your digest.
Our family now drinks nothing but water and milk, eliminating all the sugary soft drinks and juices.
We have started buying more organically grown foods and eating a lot healthier.

We purchase a lot of healthy foods and snacks to make choices easier and limit how much we purchase of junk food.
I have raised my children on water and health foods. I believe that while it is okay to have some junk food as a small treat now and then, it is vital to raise a child to grow accustomed to healthy eating habits. My daughter had her first soda when she was 8 and she hated it. I am glad that I have instilled good eating habits
I started to exercise more.
