As a teacher, I have had the opportunity to review many books. As a Special Education teacher, I have had the opportunity to review many books that aimed to teach children specific social skills.
I was really pleased to receive some books to review from Joy Berry Enterprises. Author Joy Berry has been writing motivational and instructional books for children and tweens for the past 30 years. Her stories, especially for the younger children, reminded me of some of the better social stories that I used to teach my own students. They are simple, engaging, and written on the perfect comprehension level for their intended age group. Each book focuses on a different childhood issue.
Joy Berry Classics are written into 6 series, each one for a different age group:
- Teach Me About (1-3 year olds)
- Let’s Talk About (4-5 year olds)
- Help Me Be Good (5-7 year olds)
- A Fun and Easy Way (7-10 year olds)
- Winning Skills (11-12 year olds)
- Good Answers to Tough Questions (6-12 year olds)
Who would benefit from Joy Berry’s books? Really, anyone… but especially children and tweens in need of help learning or understanding specific skills and/or emotions. There is a book for just about everything from potty training to how to clean your bedroom.
You can see a tiny offering of their books in the picture above, but be sure to browse their entire collection here.
Not only would these books make a wonderful addition to your home library, but I’m sure any teacher would appreciate a class donation! Teachers love books!
Joy Berry Enterprises provided me with a free sample of their books in order for me to review them. This review is based solely on my opinions after reviewing the books and should not be a substitute for your own experience.
