I recently had the chance to review a new book called Encyclopedia of Haunted Places: Ghostly Locales from Around the World. This is TOTALLY up my alley. I love history, but more than that, I especially love learning about the human interest aspects of the places that I visit.
I enjoy taking the “ghost tours” that some cities offer- my two favorites being the Ghosts of Gettysburg Tour and the Williamsburg, VA Ghost Tour. Both of them are held after sundown and led by a tour guide holding a lantern who takes you through supposedly haunted buildings and other landscapes.
This book is FILLED with reportedly haunted places across the world. When I looked up Pennsylvania, I was interested to read about hauntings that I never knew about. There was even a story about a location that I have been to in the Poconos- so interesting to learn the background!
The Encyclopedia of Haunted Places (compiled and edited by Jeff Belanger) is perfect for the history lovers on your holiday shopping list. I especially enjoyed how the book is organized, because it is easy to pick up, read a story or two, and put back down. You will find the ghost stories separated by country, and for example the U.S., broken down further by state.
My family loves to travel and road trips seem to be our forte, as we take them all of the time. I will be packing this book amongst our luggage on future trips in case we end up driving past one of these haunted locales and decide to stop and explore!
