There’s nothing quite like the 4th of July to make you proud to be from the Philadelphia area!
If you’re in the city, you might be heading to the Welcome America Celebration down at the art museum and surrounding area to take in the fireworks and headliner Sheryl Crow.
There are TONS of events for those of us out here in the ‘burbs though! Many that are free or very cheap.
Here is a big list of local (Bucks Co and Lehigh Co) 4th of July events, posted from this article on the Morning Call’s website!
- Allentown: The city’s Independence Day celebration begins at 5 p.m. at J. Birney Crum Stadium, 21st and Linden streets. Entertainment includes sky divers, a jet flyover and music by Allentown Marine Band, Jake Kaligis & the New Consruction and BC & Company. Fireworks start about 9 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free; donation of $5 per family and $2 per person is requested for the Police Athletic League. - Bethlehem: Concert by the Bethlehem Municipal Band, 7:30 p.m., Payrow Plaza, 12 E. Church St., followed by fireworks from Sand Island.
- Zion’s United Church of Christ, Allentown: Free family luncheon with children’s activities and a visit from Pip the Colonial Mouse at 12:30 p.m. at the Liberty Bell Museum, 622 W. Hamilton St. The museum will participate in the national Let Freedom Ring ceremony at 2 p.m. Pip the Mouse will help ring the replica Libery Bell 13 times in honor of the 13 original colonies. The ceremony features the posting of colors, patriotic music and an address by Ret. Maj. Nathan Kline, U.S. Air Force and Maj. Gen. Gerald C. Still, U.S. Air Force Reserves. - Bushkill: Fernwood Hotel and Resort, Bushkill, celebrates beginning at 11 a.m. on the Great Lawn. Activities for adults and children, food, ice cream social, picnic games, entertainment with fireworks at dusk.
- Catasauqua: Biery House, Race Street, features art work from seven artists 2-5 p.m. The Declaration of Independence will be read at 5 p.m. at the George Taylor Mansion, Lehigh and Poplar streets. Tours of the mansion will be available 4-6 p.m.
- Doylestown: Fonthill Museum, Doylestown, will hold an Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration noon-5 p.m. Includes a decorated bike parade, pony rides, watermelon-eating contest and old-time games, live music. Admission: $3; $1, ages 6-17; free, 5 and younger.
- Easton: The Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg and Vicinity’s Eighth Annual Firecracker Four-Mile Race and Run at Fairview Park, Palmer Township. Registration is 7-8:20 a.m. Start time is 8:30 a.m. for the run and 8:35 a.m. for the walk. Entry fee is $22. Info and registration: 610-258-6158.
- Fonthill Museum: Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, noon-5 p.m. Activities include antique bicycle demonstrations, watermelon eating contest, turn-of-the-century games, tug-of-wars, sack races, stilt-walkers, colorful children’s bike parade at 12:30 p.m., more. - Kutztown: July 4th Parade 11 a.m., Kutztown Folk Festival, Kutztown Fairgrounds. The festival features patriotic music on the main stage following the parade and an Independence Day oration with Dr. Theodore W. Yentsch. Festival admission required. www.kutztownfestival.com.
- Lahaska: Peddler’s Village, Celebration of Freedom with entertainment, crafts, and more, 4-10 p.m. Fireworks, 9:15 p.m. Rain or shine.
- Macungie: Old Fashioned Fourth of July picnic begins at 10 a.m. at Macungie Memorial Park with a parade, followed by activities including a bike rodeo, duck race in the creek (11 a.m.; $5, per duck), fire department and ambulance corps displays, contest and games, entertainement in the band shell (3-6 p.m.), more.
- Newtown: Day-long July 4th Celebration with the theme “Newtown at 325″ includes 5K Run Over Cancer 9 a.m. Newtown Middle School; bike decorating contest, 9:30 a.m. Newtown Walk, Newtown-Yardley Road; parade 10:30 a.m.-noon; Walking Tours of Historic Newtown; Family Fair 4:30 p.m. to dusk Newtown Middle School; fireworks 9 p.m. Newtown Middle School.
- Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival: Cast members of “1776″ read the Declaration of Independence at 5 p.m. following the 2 p.m. show, DeSales University, Labuda Center for the Performing Arts, 2755 Station Ave., Center Valley. (Attendance at performance not required; admission is free). www.pashakespeare.org.
- Quakertown: The Community Day Celebration begins at 8 a.m. at Memorial Park, with a pancake breakfast, followed by activities including an antique car show, games, food and entertainment, Quakertown Blazers baseball (6 p.m.), Quakertown Band (7:30 p.m.), fireworks (9:30 p.m.). Rain date, July 5.
- Richlandtown: The Richlandtown Historical Society will ring the large bell on its grounds at 2 p.m. The program begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Shelly School, 130 Richlandtown Pike. Info: 215-536-4929.
- Sellersville: The borough will participate in the “Let Freedom Ring” bell-ringing ceremony at 1:30 p.m. July 4 at the Sellersville Museum, 120 E. Church St.
- Shawnee: Shawnee Mountain Ski Area Idependence Day celebration includes Uncle Sam Stilt Walker, Mark Clark’s All American Magic Show, food and craft vendors, a disc jockey and fireworks at dusk. Benefits Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company. Rain date, July 5.
